Prerequisites or Co-Requisites:

There is no prerequisite for this course.

Course Resources:

Literature textbook,, Aspire curriculum

Student Materials:

Students must bring the following to class each day: literature book, journal, earbuds (can be purchased at the dollar store), jump drive, paper and pencil.

Behavioral Expectations:

Students are expected to record all homework in their planner on a daily basis, and their planner must be carried with them throughout the day.  This helps students stay organized, and it helps parents to stay informed.

Students may not have cell phones out while in school.  If a student does not honor this policy, the phone will be taken and returned to the student at the end of the day.  If the student does not provide the phone freely, the phone will be taken to the office to be picked up by a parent.  If the offense is repeated, the phone will need to be picked up by the parent.  The no-electronics policy is the policy of the Harrisburg School District.

I expect all students to be honest; therefore cheating is not acceptable.  Students will take a zero on any given assignment that cheating was involved.  I want to encourage positive behavior, but if negative behavior is demonstrated, the student will either receive a fix-it plan that will need to be signed by a parent, a phone call home, or a referral to the office, which will depend on the severity of the offense.

Point Values are used to record all classwork, homework, tests, and quizzes.  As the ELA teacher, I must provide a grade for writing and reading; therefore, all grades are divided between these two courses.

Grading Procedures:

0-59                 F

60-69               D

70-79               C

80-89               B

90-100             A

Course Policies:
All work must be turned in on time.  In the event work is turned in late, 25% will be deducted for each day the assignment is late.  Should a student be absent when an assignment is due, they have one day for each day of the absence to make up the work. It is the responsibility of the student to see me for any work that needs to be made up.  Should a student miss my class because of band, it is the responsibility of the student to see me at the start of school on the day there is band rehearsal to see what work will be missed.  By doing so, the students will not fall behind and will be prepared for class the following day.
